A Treasure Hunt Is Coming to Oaks This October

If you love old things, holiday nostalgia, or simply the thrill of finding something you didn’t know you were looking for, there’s a fun fall outing coming to Oaks.

The Antique & Collector Fair returns to the Greater Philadelphia Expo Center on Friday, October 16, and Saturday, October 17, bringing up to 100 vendors and plenty of opportunities to browse, discover and take home a little piece of the past.

And with the holidays just around the corner, the timing couldn’t be better.

Start Your Holiday Decorating With a Little History

An October antique show is a great place to start looking for decorations that have more personality than anything you’ll find on a typical store shelf.

Shoppers may find vintage Halloween collectibles, antique and vintage Christmas decorations, ornaments, holiday figures, glassware, linens, advertising pieces and other seasonal treasures.

Vintage Christmas décor, in particular, has become popular with collectors and decorators who enjoy the colors, craftsmanship and character of decorations from decades past. An unusual ornament or charming figurine can become a favorite part of the family collection—and perhaps even a conversation starter when guests arrive.

Of course, you don't have to be shopping for the holidays to enjoy the fair.

Come for the Antiques, Stay for the Hunt

The fair will feature a wide-ranging mix of antiques and vintage merchandise, from Early Americana and Victorian pieces to Mid-Century Modern finds and plenty of things that don't fit neatly into any one category.

Depending on what catches your eye, you might come across furniture, decorative arts, art glass, ceramics, textiles, china, pottery, ephemera, home décor, vintage fashion, jewelry, watches, kitchenware, barware, lighting, framed art, prints, collectibles and all sorts of intriguing objects with a story to tell.

That variety is part of the fun. You can arrive looking for one particular item and leave talking about something completely different.

You Don't Have to Be a Collector

Never been to an antique show before? No problem.

Part of the experience is simply walking from booth to booth and seeing what catches your attention. Vendors are available to answer questions, explain the history behind their pieces and share what makes particular objects interesting or collectible.

For longtime collectors, it can be a chance to find that missing piece they've been searching for. For everyone else, it's an opportunity to browse, learn a little and maybe discover a new collecting interest.

Or, as is often the case with antique shopping, you might stumble across something you didn't know you needed until you saw it.
