Oaks Is Getting a Movie Theater Experience Like None Other
Movie night in Oaks is about to get a serious upgrade.
Oaks Center Cinema is building a new auditorium that will combine a 38-foot Samsung Onyx LED movie screen with 41 D-BOX motion seats—creating what the theater says is the first theatrical experience in the world to bring the two technologies together.
And there’s another first: Oaks will be home to the first Samsung Onyx theatrical installation in the Northeast.
The new auditorium is expected to open in December 2026, just in time for the holiday movie season.
Forget the projector
Instead of watching a movie projected onto a traditional screen, audiences will be looking at a giant Samsung Onyx direct-view LED display.
That means the screen itself produces the image, rather than relying on a projector.
Samsung says its Onyx technology delivers 4K resolution, HDR, deep blacks, bright whites and rich color, with consistent brightness across the entire display.
But the screen is only half of what makes this auditorium different.
Yes, the seats move
D-Box motion seating recliners at Oaks Center Cinema
Oaks Center Cinema has already been offering D-BOX motion seating since December 2025. The technology uses synchronized motion, vibrations and tactile effects to make viewers physically feel what's happening on screen.
Now, that experience is being paired with the new LED display.
Think of it as a movie theater with a little more oomph: chase scenes can move with you, crashes can rumble through your seat, and action sequences can have a physical sensation to go along with what's happening on screen.
The new auditorium will have 41 reclining D-BOX seats.
“We’ve seen firsthand how D-BOX can transform the way audiences experience a movie,” said Kristina Warner, D-BOX's vice president of theatrical. “Pairing that immersive motion with Samsung Onyx creates something we haven’t seen before.”
A first for the region
Samsung Onyx isn't entirely new to American movie theaters. Screens are already operating in California, Texas and Georgia.
But Oaks will be the first theater in the Northeastern United States to offer the technology.
That makes the project a notable addition to the local movie scene.
The theater's timing is also interesting. A major slate of movies is arriving late in 2026, including Avengers: Doomsday and Dune Part III, giving the new auditorium some potentially very big movies to show off what it can do.
Oaks Center Cinema says the goal is straightforward: create the kind of moviegoing experience that gives people a reason to leave the couch behind.
And with a 38-foot LED screen in front of you and a motion-controlled recliner underneath you, Oaks is betting that “watching a movie” can become something considerably more immersive.
Construction is underway now, with the new Samsung Onyx + D-BOX auditorium scheduled to open in December.
So if you’ve been waiting for a reason to make movie night a little more exciting, you’ll find it in Oaks.
